TRANZURI CBO is a transgender-led community-based organization working to advance the rights, dignity, safety and well-being of transgender, gender-diverse and intersex (TGDI) communities in rural Homa Bay and surrounding counties. We are rooted in the communities we serve and work to create a society where every person can live with dignity, equality and freedom from stigma and discrimination.

Years of Impact
Our Story
TRANZURI CBO was created by members of the TGDI community who understood firsthand the barriers faced in accessing healthcare, education, employment, justice, and social acceptancein the rural areas along the Lake Victoria region. What began as a grassroots initiative has grown into a trusted community organization championing inclusion, equality, and human rights.
The name TRANZURI combines the word "Trans" with the Swahili word "Nzuri," meaning good.

Human Rights Advocacy
We advocate for laws, policies and systems that protect the rights and dignity of TGDI communities in rural areas while combating discrimination, violence and exclusion.

Health & Well-being
We work to improve TGDI access to inclusive and TGDI-competent healthcare services, HIV prevention and treatment, mental health support, psychosocial care and gender-affirming services through referrals, community outreach and strategic partnerships.

Economic Empowerment
We strengthen TGDI livelihoods through entrepreneurship training, vocational skills development, financial literacy, savings groups and income-generating initiatives that enhance economic resilience.

We conduct community-led research, document lived experiences, generate evidence and share knowledge that informs advocacy, programming and policy development in rural settings.
